Palestine Football team set for its first test at AFC Asian Cup 2023 against Iran,the three times champion.
Iran try to capture its fourth Asian Cup title and starts its journey from Sunday with match against Palestine at the education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. Iran, ranked at 21st in the world and three times winner are at higher ranked side in the tournament and will be aiming to snap their drought by capuring the first match with palestine.
The Palestine soccer team gets its first test against Iran on Sunday 14, 2024 at Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. The team have not any experience of such big matches and also they have limited domestic soccer opportunities. They face three time3s champion Iran in their opening match of the tournament, on the same day as the Israel-Hamas war reaches the 100 day mark.
Palestine captain Musab Battat said, ” there has been very little football activity in our country for three months since of the war and this impacted us negatively, but we played friendly abroed and qualifiers. we want to put in good performances and get good results for our fans”.
Qatar captain Hassan Al Haydos handed the honor of taking the pre-tournament oath to Palestine captain Musab Battat at Friday’s opening ceremony in Lusail. Battat said,” It was a proud moment for me as a captain of Palestine”. Palestine played some warmup matches : Lost 1-0 with Uzbakistan and drew 0-0 with Saudi Arabia this month. In november it lost 1-0 against Australia and drew with Lebanon.
While they have lost almost all warmup matches but Battat spoke with full confidence and said, “Our preparation went well, we are ready and fully aware the size of the task and we are in good format the moment and raring to go”.
The Paletstinian coach Makram Daboub spoke of his desire about to bring joy to our people. He said,” No doubt Iran is the best team in the continent and they have lots of top players and with a talented group. It’s between them, South Korea and Ja[pan for the title in my opinion”.
“Recently we played very well against Australia, Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, so in one match we fancy our chances, and we can dream of going through to the next round.” Marram also added.
